As to Geeraedts: - The first edition in Dutch was printed in Antwerp by Van Hoochstraten between 1525 and 1546 - The second edition dates from 1575 and was printed in Antwerp by van Ghelen - The third edition dates from 1580 and was also printed in Antwerp by van Ghelen The second edition has the privileg of the third edition and is made using worn plates of the third edition, so something isd wrong with its dating. There is one known copy left of the first edition. It is momentarily in the Royal Library in Copenhagen. A modernized version of this first edition was printed in 1790 by De Langhe in Deventer. The lather was further modernized into modern Dutch and is available as: - Wonderbaarlijke en zeldzame Historie van Thyl Ulenspiegel... hertaald en ingeleid door Guy Segers en Patricia Visscher, 1996, Leuven, Davidsfonds/Clauwaert, ISBN 90-6306-349-0, 128 pp. I don't know if there is any version in the original Dutch used in 1525-1546. The 1580 version was recently publihed as facsimile: - Ulenspiegel, Antwerpen 1580, facsimile verzorgd en van een inleiding voorzien door Dr. Loek Geeraedts, 1987 Antwerpen, Berghmans, ISBN 90-70959-11-9 45 pp comment + facsimile not numbered + 1 p. (I count 60 pp for the unnumbered facsimile part.) I scanned the first 4 facsimile pages: http://www.euro-support.be/tmp/tu/1.jpg http://www.euro-support.be/tmp/tu/2.jpg http://www.euro-support.be/tmp/tu/3.jpg http://www.euro-support.be/tmp/tu/4.jpg as well as the page at the end http://www.euro-support.be/tmp/tu/0.jpg There is also a publication about the Uilenspiegels' symbols and tradition: Jozef Jansen, Uilenspiegel, De wereld op zijn kop, 1999, Leuven, Davidsfonds, ISBN 90-6306-394-6, 272 pp. It just briefly refers to the first Dutch edition of van Hoochstraten p.113-116 but it has no quotes in the original language. Jansen found some other editions: - A list of banned books of 1570 lists an other edition by van Ghelen, but no copy of that edition is left (except for a version in French) - An edition by Derick Wijlickx in Rees (Doetinchem) in 1577, of which a version is preserved (details of the whereabouts are not mentioned unfortunately) Hope this helps, Regards, Roger |

| tiens, 'k wist ni da der een bepaald werk over Tijl Uilenspiegel bestond veur Charles De Coster, 'k dacht da da gewoon een losse reeks volkslegendes was, eerder Duits dan Vlaams. wa' zou der dan in die "eerste editie" staan? |

ow en dad "ulenspegel" in et nederduits dialect van de streek waar da-g-et verhaal z'neigen afspeeld "lik mijn reet" betekend |
